Dear Mrs. Poon and family members, and dear Larry, Christina, and family members:

Rev. Dr. Luke Poon, our deeply beloved and respected servant of God, has already left us, we all indeed miss him a lot! In fact, the images of his lovely and friendly smiles, his sincere cares, encouragements and helps to us, and his faithful servings and devotedness to God, will always be in our minds. We definitely miss him, but we all know that he is now peacefully staying with our Lord, and we will meet again in future.

Recently I had chance to listen the memorial words for Rev. Poon from pastors and brothers and sisters, in their words, the most frequently mentioned subject regarding Rev. Poon is his faithful servings and his beautiful life, in fact, this was really what I saw and knew in the life of Rev. Poon, what he was always concerned was the needs of brothers and sisters, especially when they were facing difficulties, he tried his best to give them supports, encouragements and helps, and prayed for them frequently. Rev. Poon served our Lord faithfully throughout his entire life, he never stopped in his servings, and definitely his beautiful life and his very devoted faithful servings have already become great blessings and good example to brothers and sisters.

In responding to God’s calling, Rev. Poon pursued studies at seminaries in order to serve better, before being graduated from different seminaries in North America, he was initially graduated from Hong Kong Alliance Bible Seminary, his very faithful servings throughout his life, and his total offering of himself really demonstrated the spirit of Hong Kong Alliance Bible Seminary, that is ‘starting new ministries,  willing to serve, and devoted to serve’.

From the life of Rev. Poon, I can deeper understand the words of Paul in The Second Epistle to Timothy: ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.’ (2Ti 4:7-8)

In the past many years, many God’s faithful servants and missionaries were the same as Paul, they had fought the good fight, they had finished the race, and they had kept the faith, for Rev. Poon, he was exactly the same!

What we have to learn today is, we need to live our lives better on earth, we need to further learn loving God and men, and we need to better serve our Lord in the roles that God has prepared for us, in our families we learn to lead our family members to know God better, in our careers we learn to do witnesses for our Lord better, we need to work harder on evangelism to lead more people to Christ, we also need to have a better and more beautiful life to serve God, to help brothers and sisters, to let people have blessings from God’s kingdom, and to let God have the glory that He deserves, so that in future we can say the words as Paul said: ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith’ (2Ti 4:7).

Dear Mrs Poon, Christina & Larry, and John's families,

Please accept our condolences to your family. We all miss Pastor Luke Poon so much! As we look through the videos and pictures we have taken with him during your mission in ICQM Hong Kong, we are comforted by the joyful smile, the wonderful fellowship, the teaching, and sharing with Rev Poon and Mrs Poon. Rev Poon was our Spiritual father and mentor, he is learned in the Bible and theological issues. He has been blessing our family, many of our parents, elderly, and congregation in International Christian Quality Music Secondary and Primary School and Christian Commission Church. He has encouraged us to love God's words, be His disciples and have a mission heart. We all love him so much!
Rev Poon has glorified God on Earth, having accomplished the work that God gave him to do! Amen!

I remember the first time I met Rev. Poon was at a Sunday when I had to preach. He took the initiative to say “Hi” to me and encouraged me. He and Mrs. Poon always encourage and supportive. They are like my San Francisco home church’s pastor and his wife—always carrying a thoughtful heart and spirit for the younger generation pastors. Rev. Poon would often remind me the most important thing is to love with a Shepherd’s heart, he said, “What the church needs today isn’t more knowledge, but Jesus’ love.”

I remember there was a time when Rev. Poon and Mrs. Poon had gone to overseas mission, in their absence I would miss them at each Sunday service since I wouldn’t able to chat and pray with them. Although they both had their physical weaknesses, yet their hearts for the lost soul in God’s Kingdom remain unchanged. As said in Romans 10:13-18, “for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’ But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our message?’ Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: ‘Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.’”

Today, I miss Rev. Poon dearly. I miss his encouraging words and prayers, I miss his smile and Christ-like character, and I miss his authoritative voice yet calm and pleasant. Therefore, God reminds me to continue shepherding and loving my brothers and sisters like Jesus loves. To preach His word and reignite in me the mission passion.

Rev. Poon , I miss you!

Greetings in the love of Christ Poon C-Mo & Family:

On behalf of NYCAC/3Stone, it is with great sorrow that I offer my deepest condolences to you on the passing of your husband. Reverend Dr. Luke Poon was a mentor to generations of pastors, a shepherd to countless brothers and sisters in Christ, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved Jesus with his heart, mind, soul, and strength. Even in his final days, he was unabashedly devoted to evangelism, believing that the Holy Spirit would empower the Church to be witnesses to Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and the ends of the Earth.

Though we mourn, we also rejoice in Reverend Poon's new dwelling place. We Praise God that "He will one day wipe away every tear from our eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." We are grateful that Rev. Poon will no longer suffer illness, that "what is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual one."

Know that you and your extended family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Reverend Dr. Stephen Ko

Senior Pastor | New York Chinese Alliance Church

Dear Poon Family,

I was saddened when I heard about Rev. Poon's passing. I met Rev. Poon during my time serving at New York Chinese Alliance Church. At the time I knew him mainly as Christina's dad. But as I had the opportunity to speak with him on various occasions and to hear about all of the stories of God's faithfulness through this servant's life, I was reminded that here was a true man of God. Sometimes I am tempted to think that the Lord doesn't make them like this anymore, that godly men and women of the past don't exist in our day. But then I look and see how Rev. Poon has raised up a godly legacy with James, Christina, and John wholly devoted to the Lord and walking in the steps of their father. I am reminded that godly character isn't merely something one is born with but is something that is borne out of the crucible of life. May your memories of Rev. Poon bring you comfort and peace throughout this time of sadness and may your memories spur you on to run the race with great endurance in the same manner as Rev. Poon. Welcome home, Brother Luke!

Grace and peace,
